Amelia Sykes

–

West Memphis, Arkansas

Mother Amelia Sykes began her earthly journey on May 28, 1929, born to Betty Fowler and George King in Denwood, Arkansas.

A woman of unwavering faith, she accepted Christ early in life at Friendship Baptist Church in James Mill, Arkansas. Upon making West Memphis her home, her devotion to God never faltered. Over the years, she lent her hands and heart to the services of ushering at the ministries of Old St. Paul Baptist Church, Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, and Unity Baptist Church.

In her final season of service, she stood as a pillar of faith and a beloved Church Mother at I’m A Part Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Arlen Parham.

In the early hours of January 6th, Heaven whispered to Mother Sykes that her work was done. She peacefully transitioned from labor to reward, entering into the eternal joy of the Lord.

Mother Sykes was preceded in death by her parents and is now reuniting with her siblings: Sarah Murry, Johnny Young, Samuel King, Willie King, and Harry Young. She also joins her daughters, Shirley Cooper and Marie Cassels, and granddaughter Le’Rita Clark in eternal rest.

Left to cherish her memory and preserve her legacy are her children: Ira Lee (Elenora) Rilley, Victoria King, Donald Lacey, Caroline Lacey, and Tommy Sykes. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her sister, Beulah Neeley.
